Modern Foreign Languages

The Modern Foreign Languages faculty at Tupton Hall School is a lively, enthusiastic and highly successful department: The following languages are taught

  • French
  • German
  • Spanish

Students starting in Year 7 will learn a Modern Foreign Language until the end of Year 9.

In KS4 GCSE students can opt to continue with the language they studied in KS3.

How you will study

  • 3 periods a week in Year 7,Year 8 and Year 9
  • 3 periods a week at GCSE
  • 5 periods a week at A-Level

We have access to 2 Foreign Language Assistants every year, so all students will get time at least every other year. The FLAs prioritise A Level and GCSE students but spend some time with KS3 students as well.

Every effort is made to ensure language learning lessons are fun and interactive, with a great deal of role play, project work, ICT, listening, pair and teamwork, and independent study.

A large emphasis is placed on enhancement within MFL and to that end we run several extra-curricular activities, such as e-pals and ICT.

MFL Gifted and Talented is catered for with an extra-curricular club, MFL theatre and the Foreign Language Leader Awars, which involves KS2 students being coached by gifted Year 10 learners.

Every year there are various trips and exchanges to France, Spain and Germany, which have been run successfully for many years with very positive outcomes.
